Mimos, c'est un festival en effervescence. Dès aujourd'hui, et pendant toute la semaine jusqu'à samedi 2 août, Périgueux deviendra une vitrine du théâtre gestuel. On attend à cette 32e édition 27 compagnies de sept pays, qui témoigneront de la diversité d'un art aux frontières du théâtre, du cirque, de la danse, de la marionnette.

« Si Mimos dure depuis si longtemps, c'est qu'il a su se renouveler et aller vers les formes contemporaines », souligne Chantal Achilli, directrice du festival et de L'Odyssée. Les acteurs investiront les théâtres, les rues, les jardins de la ville. Ils iront faire un tour dans les quartiers, pousseront des pointes dans l'agglomération, à Boulazac, Chancelade, Coulounieix-Chamiers.

À ce programme déjà copieux s'ajouteront les prestations de 19 compagnies du festival off, désireuses de se faire connaître. Les spectacles se succéderont tous les jours de 11 à 23 heures. On prévoit, au total, 160 représentations. Pour marquer cet aspect festif, Mimos s'ouvrira ce soir par le « Concert de feu » des Commandos Percu, qui réunira plusieurs milliers de personnes.

« Paysage inconnu »

Dans ce foisonnement, une grande figure se détache. Josef Nadj donnera demain au Théâtre de Périgueux la première française de son nouveau spectacle, « Paysage inconnu ». Cela fait quatorze ans qu'il n'était pas venu à Mimos. Pourtant, il l'a marqué de son empreinte, a remporté le prix de la critique en 1995 avec « Comedia tempio ».

Cet engouement tient à la personnalité de Josef Nadj, danseur et chorégraphe d'origine hongroise. Directeur du Centre national chorégraphique d'Orléans, il s'est imposé par son style épuré, où l'humour et la dérision sont omniprésents. « Paysage inconnu » vient d'être créé à Lisbonne, les 16 et 17 juillet. Josef Nadj a retravaillé deux de ses solos, « Journal d'un inconnu » et « Paysage après l'orage ». Il en a fait un quatuor, où il se produit avec un autre danseur, Ivan Fatjo, et deux musiciens en live, Akosh S. et Gildas Etevenard. On y retrouve des thèmes qui lui sont chers, en particulier l'attachement à son pays natal, la Vojvodine, enclave hongroise dans l'actuelle Serbie. Il fera découvrir également des aspects moins connus de son talent. Il présentera au Théâtre de Périgueux une exposition de dessins intitulée « Les Corbeaux ». Et il participera à une table ronde sur la transmission du mime et du théâtre gestuel.

Autre grand retour : la compagnie bruxelloise Mossoux-Bonté donnera vendredi son « Histoire de l'imposture ». Parmi les nouveaux venus, il faudra compter avec Jeanne Mordoj dans « La Poème » ou Marlène Rubinelli Giordano, du Collectif AOC, qui se lance dans un solo « Maalâm ». La jeune création française sera valorisée au cours de la soirée « Mimésis » réunissant sept compagnies. La relève du théâtre gestuel.

Il y aura du bruit, de la fureur et des flammes, le 28 juillet pour ouvrir le 32e Festival international du mime Mimos. Les Commandos Percu donneront leur "Concert de feu" au stade du Copo, le long de la Voie des stades de Périgueux, en guise de spectacle d'ouverture gratuit. Le choix du lieu excentré a été confirmé pour pouvoir accueillir davantage de public qu'en centre ville.

La grosse affiche du festival sera le retour de Josef Nadj,...

A Day’s Pleasure – Free - “Chaplin’s fourth film for First National Films. It was created at the Chaplin Studio. It was a quickly made two-reeler to help fill a gap while working on his first feature The Kid. It is about a day outing with his wife and the kids and things don’t go smoothly.” (1919)

A Fair Exchange – Free – Originally released as Getting Acquainted, the film’s plot has been summarized as follows: “Charlie and his wife are walking in the park when they encounter Ambrose and his wife. The partners become fond of their counterparts and begin chasing each other around. A policeman looking for a professional Don Juan becomes involved, as does a Turk.” (1914)

A Film Johnnie - Free - Charlie goes to the movie and falls in love with a girl on the screen. (1914)

A Night in the Show – Free – “Mr. Pest tries several theatre seats before winding up in front in a fight with the conductor. He is thrown out. In the lobby he pushes a fat lady into a fountain and returns to sit down by Edna. Mr. Rowdy, in the gallery, pours beer down on Mr. Pest and Edna. He attacks patrons, a harem dancer, the singers Dot and Dash, and a fire-eater.” (1915)

All Night Out – Free – “After a visit to a pub, Charlie and Ben cause a ruckus at a posh restaurant. Charlie later finds himself in a compromising position at a hotel with the head waiter’s wife.” (1915)

A Woman – Free – “Mother, Father and Daughter go to the park. The women dose off on a bench while the father plays a hide-and-seek game with a girl, blindfolded. Charlie leads him into a lake. Both dozing ladies on the bench fall for Charlie and invite him for dinner. The father returns home with a friend. Charlie rushes upstairs and dresses like a woman, shaving his moustache. Both men fall for Charlie.” (1915)

Behind the Screen – Free – A short film written and directed by Chaplin, the film is long on slapstick, but it also gets into themes dealing with gender bending and homosexuality. (1916)

Between Showers - Free – A short Keystone film from 1914 starring Charlie Chaplin, Ford Sterling, and Emma Bell Clifton.

By the Sea – Free – “It is windy at a bathing resort. After fighting with one of the two husbands, Charlie approaches Edna while the two husbands themselves fight over ice cream. Driven away by her husband, Charlie turns to the other’s wife.” (1915)

Caught in a Cabaret – Free – Charlie is a clumsy waiter in a cheap cabaret, suffering the strict orders from his boss. He’ll meet a pretty girl in the park, pretending to be a fancy ambassador, despite the jealousy of her fiancée. (1914)

Charlie Shanghaied - Free - Charlie Chaplin and his Tramp character gets shanghaied by crooks. (1915)

Charlie’s Recreation – Free - Out of costume, Charlie is a clean-shaven dandy who, somewhat drunk, visits a dance hall. There the wardrobe girl has three rival admirers: the band leader, one of the musicians, and now Charlie. (1914)

Charlot et Le Mannequin – Free – Also known as Mabel’s Married Life, the film’s plot is summarized as follows: “Accosted by a masher in the park and unable to motivate husband Charlie into taking action, Mabel gets him a boxing mannequin to sharpen his fighting skills.” (1914)

Gentlemen of Nerve – Free – “Mabel and her beau go to an auto race and are joined by Charlie and his friend. As Charlie’s friend is attempting to enter the raceway through a hole, the friend gets stuck and a policeman shows up. Charlie sprays the policeman with soda until he friends makes it through the hole. In the grandstand, Mabel abandons her beau for Charlie. Both Charlie’s friend and Mabel’s are arrested and hauled away.” (1914)

The handbag makes its way from person to person to its owner, who is angry with her boyfriend who didn’t protect her in the first place. Police – Free - “Police was Charlie Chaplin’s 14th released film from Essanay. It was made at the Majestic Studio in Los Angeles. Edna Purviance plays the girl living in the home who tries to change him.” (1916)

Shoulder Arms – Free - Charlie is a boot camp private who has a dream of being a hero who goes on a daring mission behind enemy lines. (1918)

Sunnyside – Free – “Charlie works on a farm from 4am to late at night. He gets his food on the run (milking a cow into his coffee, holding an chicken over the frying pan to get fried eggs). He loves the neighbor’s daughter Edna but is disliked by her father. He rides a cow into a stream and is kicked off. Unconscious, he dreams of a nymph dance. Back in reality a city slicker is hurt in a car crash and is being cared for by Edna. When Charlie is rejected after attempting to imitate the slicker, the result is ambiguous–either tragic or a happy ending. Critics have long argued as to whether the final scene is real or a dream.” (1919)

The Bank – Free – “Charlie does everything but an efficient job as janitor. Edna buys her fiance, the cashier, a birthday present. Charlie thinks “To Charles with Love” is for him. He presents her a rose which she throws in the garbage. Depressed, Charlie dreams of a bank robbery and his heroic role in saving he manager and Edna … but it is only a dream.”

The Bond – Free – A propaganda film created and funded by Chaplin for theatrical release to help sell U.S. Liberty Bonds during World War I. (1918)

The Champion - Free – “Walking along with his bulldog, Charlie finds a “good luck” horseshoe just as he passes a training camp advertising for a boxing partner “who can take a beating.” After watching others lose, Charlie puts the horseshoe in his glove and wins. The Count – Free – The Count was Charlie Chaplin’s 5th film for Mutual Films. Co-starring Eric Campbell and Edna Purviance, it is a story about Charlie and his boss finding an invitation to a party from a real Count. (1916)

The Fatal Mallet – Free - Three man will fight for the love of a charming girl. Charlie will play dirty, throwing bricks to his contender, and using a huge hammer to hurt one of them. But a precocious kid will be the fourth suitor in discord. (1914)

The Fireman – Free – “Released in June 1916, it starred Charlie as the fireman and Edna Purviance as the daughter to Leo White. Leo White played a character trying to arrange with Eric Campbell (the fire chief) to have his house burn down so he could collection the insurance money. The Floorwalker – Free – “The Floorwalker was Charlie Chaplin’s first Mutual Film Company made in 1916. It starred Chaplin as a customer in a department store who finds out the manager is stealing money from the store. It was noted for the first ‘running staircase’ used in films.” (1916)

Work – Free – “Charlie and his boss have difficulties just getting to the house they are going to wallpaper. The householder is angry because he can’t get breakfast and his wife is screaming at the maid as they arrive. The kitchen gas stove explodes, and Charlie offers to fix it. The wife’s secret lover arrives and is passed off as the workers’ supervisor, but the husband doesn’t buy this and fires shots. The stove explodes violently, destroying the house.” (1915)

Soudain, on a cru tenir le scoop de l’année : vendredi, sur sa tribune aménagée dans la salle des mariages de la mairie de Périgueux, le président de la République a confirmé l’implication de l’État auprès du festival Mimos, en évoquant « le label de Scène nationale reconnue ». Une Scène nationale, en langage culturel, c’est l’appellation officielle de 70 sites en France qui leur garantit plusieurs centaines de milliers d’euros de financements publics. Stupeur : pour le Théâtre de l’Odyssée, qui organise Mimos avec à peine 180 000 euros de budget artistique et la saison culturelle locale avec une enveloppe globale d’1,5 million d’euros par an, François Hollande semblait promettre un financement multiplié par dix !

En fait, pas du tout : à quelques minutes de prendre son bain de foule dans le centre-ville, le chef de l’État a confondu le terme « scène nationale » avec « scène conventionnée », une autre forme de labellisation, mais beaucoup moins dotée. Et puisque l’Odyssée vient d’obtenir de l’État une « mission nationale » autour des arts du mime, le méli-mélo était couru d’avance. Du coup, l’État a bien validé la création d’un « Institut national des arts du mime et du geste » comme troisième activité de l’Odyssée, avec la saison culturelle et le festival. Mais avec un budget supplémentaire symbolique : 60 000 euros pour cette première année.

Depuis sa création, en 1983 à Périgueux, le Festival MIMOS s’est toujours attaché à refléter la diversité d’un art reposant sur le langage du corps et le mouvement dramatique.
Il est devenu le plus important festival de mime d'Europe avec celui de Londres. Chaque année, les responsables essaient de trouver des compagnies proposant des formes novatrices qui s'éloignent du mime traditionnel pour aller flirter avec la danse contemporaine, les arts plastiques, la vidéo, les marionnettes ou le cirque.

L'édition  2013 qui se veut le reflet d’une société en proie au doute,elle va convier le spectateur à un voyage sensoriel entre Illusion et réalité. 
Les artistes s’amusent à créer de troublants trompe-l’œil, s’emparent, animent ou détournent les objets, se jouent de nos perceptions...

Claudio Stellato fusionne son corps avec des objets, en un fascinant ballet/combat où se mêlent danse, théâtre d’objets et magie nouvelle avec son pspectacle "L’Autre"



La Cie Jakop Ahlbom, combine imagination débridée et faux- semblants pour un superbe hommage au cinéma burlesque muet (Lebensraum), au croisement des arts plastiques et du théâtre,.



La Cie Tête de Pioche libère la charge poétique contenue dans de vieux outils agricoles (Fragments de vie), avec son subtil ballet aérien dans les arbres




Le Studio Eclipse offre l’expérience d’une autre perspective par le “dessous”, un étonnant contre-champ de la réalité (Fallen Thoughts), célébrée pour ses images mouvantes à l’énergie radicale.



La compagnie russe Derevo, dont c’est le grand retour à Périgueux, présente un petit bijou de trouvailles visuelles et scénographiques, inédit encore en France (Harlekin) 



La Cie Les Philébulistes met en scène une roue vertigineuse et mobile où deux acrobates- voltigeurs jouent à défier la rotation (Arcane)

21 jeunes compagnies sélectionnées donneront leurs créations au détour des rues et places de Périgueux. Au gré de leurs envies, les festivaliers peuvent s’attarder pour découvrir de multiples propositions artistiques, des plus impressionnantes et imposantes à des petites formes plus intimes. En fin de festival, le public élira le lauréat du Prix MIM'OFF 2013 qui récompense le meilleur spectacle du Off (1500 €).

Michel Moyrand ne boudait pas son plaisir. "J'éprouve une très grande fierté de voir Périgueux placé au sommet de cet art qu'est le mime" a-il déclaré. "Cette 31ème édition s'ouvre dans un contexte rassurant" a ajouté le maire, vice-président du conseil régional d'Aquitaine. L'Odyssée aura trois missions essentielles, reconnues par le ministère de la Culture :

- repérer les compagnies émergentes et les faire connaître du grand public en soutenant la création
- développer la pédagogie et la formation via des masters classes
- valoriser la mémoire de l'art du mime.

L'Odyssée dispose de 30 ans d'archives de photos et de vidéos. Il va falloir les numériser et les indexer. Dans 5 ans, le public devrait pouvoir les consulter en ligne.
"Nous allons détenir la plus grande richesse au monde de cet art et la rendre accessible" s'est félicité Michel Moyrand.
En 30 ans, grâce à un festival accessible à tous, "nous avons démocratisé la culture de l'Art du geste et du mime" a-t-il conclu.
